An important Star Wars institution is going away soon. Lucasfilm and magazine publisher Titan have announced that in early 2026, Star Wars Insider will end its run after three decades.

On November 10, Lucasfilm announced on the official Star Wars website that Star Wars Insider would conclude its three-decade run with issue #237. But that issue won’t arrive until early 2026. The next issue of Star Wars Insider, #235, is dedicated to celebrating the 10th anniversary of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. There will also be hardcover and paperback collections of some of the original stories that were shared in the magazine over its many years.

Insider has been a big part of my Star Wars experience for a very long time, both as a fan and professionally,” said editor Christopher Cooper. “It’s been an honor to explore the galaxy far, far away with our readers during my eight-year tenure. But publishing has changed immeasurably since the Lucasfilm Fan Club magazine, and we live in an increasingly digital age, which sadly means that this chapter in Star Wars Insider‘s history is coming to an end.”

“I certainly share Christopher’s sentiments. Having served as editor-in-chief of Insider during the lead-up to Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith in 2004 and 2005, and then to edit the magazine for the past 9 years for Lucasfilm Publishing, has been the greatest privilege of my life,” added senior editor Brett Rector. “To say the magazine occupies a huge place in my heart is an understatement.”

Star Wars Insider launched in 1994, but its origins date back to the late 1970s. The earliest version of a monthly Star Wars magazine started in 1978 as part of the Official Star Wars Fan Club. The club’s newsletter was eventually named Bantha Tracks, and that would run until 1987. That publication was replaced by the Lucasfilm Fan Club magazine, which debuted the same year as Bantha Tracks’ final issue. In 1994, the magazine was rebranded as Star Wars Insider and has remained a part of the franchise since then. But in the era of the internet and apps, a franchise magazine seems like a quaint artifact of the past. I’m impressed it lasted this long, and happy it stuck around for three decades.
