New content released on GPUOpen for AMD RDNA™ 4 on-shelf day

AMD RDNA™ 4 is here!

March 6th is the day the AMD RDNA™ 4 architecture AMD Radeon™ RX 9000 series graphics cards with support for AMD FidelityFX™ Super Resolution (FSR) 4 are available to buy. And with the launch of the supporting AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition™ 25.3.1 driver, we have updates here on GPUOpen too!

A new architecture means new documentation

We know developers look forward to getting a new Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) document with each new architecture. ISAs specify language constructs and behavior, including the organization of each type of instruction in both text syntax and binary format, and provide a reference of instruction operations.

The latest PDF for AMD RDNA 3.5 and AMD RDNA 4 is available now. However, this time round we also have the machine-readable version available here on GPUOpen!

If you missed our announcement last year, we’ve made the ISA specifications available as a set of XML files, containing instructions, encodings, operands, data formats, and even human-readable description strings. You can explore the XML files directly or use the IsaDecoder API for easy access and quick decoding of single instructions and whole kernels.

AMD FSR 4 upgrade now available for your games

With the release of our AMD Radeon RX 9000 series graphics cards, our new AMD FSR 4 upgrade feature is available in the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition driver. Get your games ready to support FSR 4 by upgrading to or adding the latest v1.1.3 version of the AMD FidelityFX SDK that includes AMD FSR 3.1.3.

Open source AMD Advanced Interactive Streaming SDK and AMF update

The new open-source AMD Advanced Interactive Streaming (AIS) SDK release, built using our Advanced Media Framework (AMF) SDK, is designed from the ground up to transform streaming from passive viewing into an immersive experience. Developers can now access a comprehensive toolkit that provides direct access to the source code that underpins our proven streaming architecture and encoder libraries.

The Advanced Media Framework (AMF) SDK has also been updated to v1.4.36 with:

  • B-frame support and a picture management option for the AV1 encoder.
  • New high quality presets for the HEVC and AVC encoders.
  • A new SimpleFRC sample app.

You can learn more and download the latest AMF SDK here.

AMD Capsaicin Framework 1.2 update

AMD Capsaicin Framework is our simple and flexible Microsoft® Direct3D® framework for fast prototyping and development of real-time rendering research.

The new v1.2 update brings lots of new features, including:

  • Support for morph target animation, in addition to the existing skinning support.
  • Meshlet based rendering – now uses reverse-Z.
  • Texture “.dds” loading, which supports BC compressed and uncompressed.
  • New tonemappers: Defaults to ACES with optional Reinhard, Uncharted2, PBR Neutral, and Agx.
  • Histogram-based automatic exposure.
  • Shader caching for fast reloading.
  • Bloom and lens effects technique using AMD FidelityFX™ Blur and Lens respectively.
  • Improved documentation.

There’s plenty more not listed here, which you can read about on the Capsaicin page.

Coming very soon, you can look forward to updates to our Radeon Developer Tool Suite to support AMD RDNA 4. They’ll also have lots of other exciting new features which our tools engineers will be sharing details about here on GPUOpen, so keep a close eye on our social channels (X, BlueSky, Mastodon) next week for the release!
